Description
This painting is part of The Josef and Anni Albers Foundation permanent collection, located in Bethany, Connecticut. Painting of a series of squares that appear to be layered. Solid geometric blocks of color in a cool palette. Artist interested in the interaction of colors and the relationships of colors that are next to each other. Experiment with color theory and vision. One work in a series called Homage to the Square, created over several decades. Painting has a flat texture, although variations in the lines indicate the shapes were painted by hand. Represents a flat, two-dimensional space. Design is minimal and nonrepresentational. Design is also highly symmetrical and balanced; however, the series of squares creates a visual vibrancy or rhythm.
